Our Mission: Make Japanese Accessible to Everyone
We believe great Japanese education shouldn't cost a fortune or require a classroom. Nihongo Mission is built for self-learners who want a real path — not random vocab lists.
Nihongo Mission started with a simple frustration: Japanese learning apps teach random words with no path to the actual exam.
Every app has vocabulary drills. None of them connect to the JLPT structure. Tutors cost more than most people can afford. And the grammar resources online either contradict each other or assume you're already halfway fluent.
So we built the thing we needed: a structured N5→N1 curriculum that follows the real JLPT syllabus, an AI tutor available at any hour, and SRS reviews that actually stick.
Lessons and reviews are free, permanently. Premium support funds new content and keeps the free tier alive for everyone who can't pay. If that sounds like the right model for learning, you're in the right place.

Why we built this
Most Japanese learning tools are either expensive, disconnected from real exams, or just boring. We set out to fix all three — and keep it free for those who need it most.
What we believe
Accessible everywhere
No paywalls on fundamentals. Lessons, SRS reviews, and streaks are free forever — because language education shouldn't depend on your budget.
JLPT-aligned structure
Every lesson, mission, and review follows the official JLPT curriculum from N5 to N1. You always know where you are and what comes next.
Community-funded
Premium supporters fund new content, AI improvements, and free access for everyone. You're not a customer — you're a stakeholder.
The community behind the science
Nihongo Mission isn't built in isolation. Real learners shape every decision — what gets built, what gets fixed, and what stays free.
Feedback becomes features
Every gap in the curriculum, every confusing explanation, every broken flow — learners report it, and it gets fixed. No roadmap meetings. Direct line from the community to the code.
Free tier, defended by community
The core — lessons, SRS, streaks — is free permanently. Premium supporters made that possible and keep it that way. They're funding access for everyone who can't pay.
Built for real learners, globally
Indonesian learners pushed for full ID translation. JLPT takers shaped the N5→N1 sequence. The curriculum reflects what people actually struggle with, not what looks good on a landing page.
Science-backed, community-validated
Spaced repetition, interleaved practice, retrieval over re-reading — the methods are research-proven. The community stress-tests them and reports what actually works in practice.
